Jim Parsons married his longtime partner Todd Spiewak in New York City this past May, and now the Big Bang Theory star is opening up about the celebration. Parsons talked about the couple's decision to marry after being together for almost 15 years on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "I didn't really think we cared that much about the act of it, to be honest," the actor said. "I finally thought, let's have a party, then, for the celebration, and we'll go ahead and legalize this thing… It was so much more meaningful in the moment to me than I predicted and it's been resonantly more meaningful to me afterward than I ever saw coming." "BIG BANG THEORY" STAR JIM PARSONS HOSTED AN UNPLUGGED WEDDING He noted that he didn't necessarily feel pressure to wed throughout his decade-and-a-half relationship. "I had been an adult gay person for so long at a time where [marriage] wasn't possible, that life was 'fine'…I got along fine, and our relationship did," Parsons explained. Colbert asked him how saying "I do" has changed his relationship. Though Parsons said he couldn't quite place what was different, he said he knows there's an "underlying buzz," and that he keeps reminding himself he's married. He added, "I kind of forget, and then I'm like… we're a legal thing just like mom and dad were!" The most significant thing about marriage, Parsons says, is the feeling of being closer to some kind of higher power. "There's this sense of divinity… to be in love, to find love in that way is as close as anything I can imagine doing in life, that gives me the feeling of being close to 'God' or whatever that is for you." The couple got married at the Rainbow Room in New York City on May 13th. Parsons has since shared several photos on Instagram of the special day, including pictures of the pair's first dance and the grooms' dapper Tom Ford suit jackets.
