Kate Middleton and Prince William celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary a couple of months ago, but the married couple just received their first official painted portrait as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The royal pair paid a visit to the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge to see the piece of art on display for the first time. The painting, created by Jamie Coreth, an award-winning British portrait artist, was commissioned as a gift in 2021 by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund, held by the Cambridge Community Foundation, People reports.

“It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture,” Coreth said. “I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.”

The portrait shows the royal couple in the attire they wore during a joint outing in Dublin, Ireland, back in 2020. Kate donned a metallic emerald dress and Prince William sported a dark blue suit and tie to match. “As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives,” Coreth added. “The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”

After seeing the portrait with their own eyes, the duke and duchess visited with the artist and over 100 exhibitors, such as small business owners and community organizers, at the first Cambridgeshire County Day at the July Racecourse. At the event, they also took in choir, band, and dance performances put on by local charities and businesses.
