While Kate Middleton is just a few months into her new role as the Princess of Wales, she recently received another title from King Charles—and it formerly belonged to Prince William. Her father-in-law gave her a new royal role as the honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards. This is especially fitting, as Princess Catherine has honored the guards regiment for nearly every St. Patrick’s Day celebration since becoming a member of the royal family, People reports.

Prince William formerly held the role since 2011, when Queen Elizabeth named him as the honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards just a few months before he married Kate. The Prince of Wales actually wore the red Irish Guards officer uniform for their Westminster Abbey ceremony.

Kate wasn’t the only royal to receive a new title this week: King Charles appointed Prince William as Colonel of the Welsh Guards to coincide with his Prince of Wales title and royal duties—and Queen Camilla has been named the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards.

Kate and Prince William received their titles as the Prince and Princess of Wales shortly after Queen Elizabeth’s passing. First, they went from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall. King Charles later elevated their roles further, which he shared during his first speech as the royal patriarch. “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales,” the King said about Prince William, Insider previously reported. “The country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear, during so much of my life.”
