In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, multiple rainbows have been spotted throughout the United Kingdom. Many mourners believe the phenomena are a message from the late monarch as she looks down on the land she ruled for 70 years. Even Kate Middleton, the newly appointed Princes of Wales, shares this sentiment.

Princess Catherine, formerly the Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall, said she felt the sovereign’s presence when five rainbows appeared over Balmoral Castle in Scotland the day after the Queen’s death, People reports.

“In Scotland, how many rainbows turned up?” Prince William asked Princess Catherine during a meeting with volunteers and operational staff who helped organize the Queen’s committal service on Monday. “You hardly ever see rainbows up there, but there were five,” he added.

“Her Majesty was looking down on us,” Princess Catherine said.

But the five rainbows over Balmoral weren’t the only time the colorful arches appeared in the sky following the Queen’s death. Just before Her Majesty’s passing was announced to the public on September 8, a double rainbow appeared over Buckingham Palace. Additionally, the day before her funeral on September 18, People reports that another rainbow appeared over the Palace of Westminster.

As the royal family continues to mourn the late monarch’s passing, the rainbows serve as a nice reminder of her presence (the Queen was known to dress in bright colors). Queen Elizabeth is survived by her son, now King Charles III, who recently named Prince William and Princess Catherine the Prince and Princess of Wales. With their title change, the royal couple is planning to move into Windsor Castle—the Queen’s former home.
