Hoda Kotb recently opened up about how she admires the relationships of longstanding couples in Hollywood, whether they are married or not. But, she explained on the Today Show that tying the knot to her fiancé, Joel Schiffman, feels like the final step towards completing their lives together. “With our family, there are a lot of things that are unusual about our grouping and I think that’s it’s good to have all those things in order,” Kotb said.

“I think everyone makes their own choice, but you have so many things to explain, like, ‘That’s my mom and dad. They’re not married. We’re adopted. They’re old.’ There’s a lot to talk about,” she continued, jokingly. But on a more serious note, she believes that marrying Schiffman is “the one last thing” to make them feel even more in sync as a family.

The pair initially planned to get married in a beachside destination wedding in Mexico, which is where they also got engaged. But, like many couples during the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to cancel their nuptials for the time being. “It was actually supposed to happen in November and Maria Shriver called me. She’s like, ‘It’s still on my calendar. Is it off?’ I go, ‘Yes, it’s off! I thought I called you!’” Kotb previously told People.

But while they have had to reassess their big-day plans, their wedding might actually be just around the corner. If it does take place sometime soon, the couple will likely be staying close to home. “My guess is we’ll do it in the summertime,” the Today Show host said, also noting: “Of course it’s going to be a beach wedding, and we’ll probably do it somewhere around New York.”
